Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I had some much needed down time which also included a few days away in Banff with my family, but now I’m ready to get back to it.
What an incredible year I had. I have to thank all of you whether we worked together or you were a cheerleader in my corner, your support means the world to me. I had my busiest wedding season as of yet, and can’t wait to share them with you!
I’m going to start with K & J, from our very first contact I knew these two were going to be amazing to work with. Their very first email was so enagaging and set the tone to our relationship. Their story was one that instantly pulled me in. They met being camp counsellors when they were just 15 years old, and have been together ever since. Now if that isn't the sweetest, I’m not sure what is. Their energy as a couple is so vibrant and fun, but also completely genuine and caring. They are people you want to be around. And I absolutely adored getting to know them.
After having to put plans on hold for a couple of years, they were finally able to have their dream wedding this past August at the Pinebrook Golf & Country Club, and it was an incredible day. Everything fell in to place, and even the little mishaps that occurred were laughed about and will be fun stories to reminisce one day. These two were surrounded by their closest family and friends, and I can assure you most everyone shed a tear that day. I know I did. From intimate moments like reading their vows alone to K choosing her parents wedding song to dance with her father, I was in awe of them every step of the way.
I loved that they took this time in their day just for them. I’ve had a couple different couples do this on their wedding day, and I think it’s a such wonderful thing to do that is so impactful on the wedding day. To truly take the time for yourselves is something that gets overlooked at weddings.
Their wedding party was made from their best childhood friends who have been there for most of their lives and this relationship. We had a lot of fun, and you could tell how much they adored J & K.
Their ceremony was held outdoors overlooking a valley. A gold arch adorned with the most beautiful arrangements by Adventure Floral was the centerpiece. The colors of the flowers (bouquets and all) were so unique and complimented the warm day.
If time and weather allow I always ask my couples to sneak out for some more shots at sunset. I can promise you these will always turn out, and they did… some of my favourites of the day. By this time, all the “tough” stuff is out of the way and it’s party time. I know it’s not always easy leaving the fun for a few minutes, but trust me, its always worth it!
All in all, the day was perfect. We had so many laughs and a lot of tears, happy ones. These two are well on their way in their new adventure as a married couple and I’m honoured to have been the one to capture these memories for them.
Drumheller Engagement
If you’ve never been to Drumheller, you’re missing out on a magical place. I’ve always been intrigued by the unique terrain and it’s desolate vibe creates a mood unlike any other location I’ve shot at. Not to mention all the layers in the backdrop and the unique landscape hold thousands of years of history.
Now it’s no secret I love shooting couples, and engagement sessions are right up there as a favourite next to weddings (if you didn’t know I include an engagement session with each wedding I book)
Engagement sessions are just fun, plain and simple. It’s just us hanging out, getting to know one another. I tend joke that we’re now a “throuple” when I’m in there with you up close and personal, but I really mean it. I’m there for your most intense and vulnerable moments on your wedding day, and if you can open up to me, that’s when the magic happens. I truly love and value the bond I create with each of my couples.
H & B are as sweet as they come. A beautiful couple with their wedding planned for next summer. I’d been wanting to do an engagement session in Drumheller for some time, and it worked out that they were up for it. A bit of a drive from Calgary, but worth it. We had the most beautiful warm September evening, and took advantage of it all. Capturing their love was easy, and we had a blast.
Our time together was wonderful, and getting to know these two better gets me so excited for their wedding next summer.
